Actaea, commonly called baneberry or bugbane, is a genus of flowering plants belonging to the Ranunculaceae family (buttercup), indigenous to temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. Also known as Cimicifuga, these herbaceous perennials are grown as ornamental plants for their lush, dark foliage and their scented bottle-brush like flowers.
