Although known as the Indian bean tree, this handsome species comes from hot areas of Central America. A spreading tree, Catalpa bignonioides Aurea has large, heart-shaped bright yellow leaves which are bronze when young. In summer, tall panicles of white, trumpet-shaped flowers appear, followed by slender pods.
