February-flowering, the Cornelian Cherry is a densely branched deciduous shrub when in full flower will lift the spirits on a dull winters day. A compact shrub bearing clusters of bright yellow flowers in early spring, followed by large, red edible fruit in autumn. The colourful, cream edged, grey-green leaves, turning red in autumn, make the Cornus mas Variegata an excellent ornamental tree for the small gardens and woodland areas. The fruit of the Cornelian cherry tastes of a cranberry and cherry mix.
