Cyrtomium

Cyrtomium ferns are genus of 12 species found in moist rocky woodland areas in mainly Central or East Asia. Most species have distinctive fronds which provide a strong contrast to other, lacier ferns. Cyrtomium ferns are a good choice for a shady border or a rock garden. Some of the most popular Cyrtomium ferns are the Japanese Holly Ferns, such as Cyrtomium falcatum and Cyrtomium fortunei. Varieties such as these are known for their glossy plump leaves that are very unlike the traditional idea of what a “fern” should look like – resembling instead the leaves of shrubs or other plants.
