Liriope

Species in the Liriope genus are low-lying grass-like plants originating from East Asia. Named after the nymph Liriope in Greek mythology, they are sometimes referred to as “lilyturf” in the USA, even though they are not proper lilies. They are, however, very useful for landscaping, thanks to their compact nature and attractive evergreen foliage, which makes them ideal for groundcover and as edging plants for garden beds and walkways. They are also suitable for container growing.Popular varieties of liriope in the UK include Liriope muscari and Liriope muscari Goldband, due to their great versatility, low maintenance and their pretty violet flowers. Liriope grows best in well-drained dry soil without too much shade and is very hardy. It does not do very well in extreme temperatures, however.
