Matteuccia

Matteuccia ferns are a genus of three to four deciduous species which are commonly found in woodland settings in Europe, North America and East Asia. The genus is better known for its northern temperate varieties, with their graceful, arching fronds, which to many people resemble the plumes of an ostrich. For best results, Matteuccia ferns should be grown in moist shade, sited on a damp border or perhaps on a pond margin. Popular varieties of this genus among UK gardeners include the rare Matteuccia orientalis, otherwise known as the Oriental Ostrich Fern, and the more widespread Matteuccia struthiopteris – the Shuttlecock Fern
