Onoclea

Onoclea ferns are the genus of one species of deciduous fern which is found in damp soil right across North America and East Asia. Also known as Onoclea sensibilis, the sensitive fern, it thrives in moist fertile soil, preferably acid, and will thrive at the edge of a pond or a shady border. The “sensitive” tag comes from the observation by early American settlers that the plant was highly sensitive to frost, so it is a good idea for gardeners to ensure that it is well protected from the coldest weather – as well as from scorching in bright direct sunlight.
