Osmunda

There are about 12 species of ferns in the Osmunda genus. Osmunda ferns are deciduous, primarily located in damp places and can be found on all continents except Australasia. Osmunda ferns are characterised by the large mass of sporangia on their leaves that tend to ripen all at the same time, forming a vibrant golden hue, which has all the appearance of flowers – and which has led to the genus being dubbed the "flowering ferns". Popular varieties include Osmunda regalis Purpurascens. For the best results, Osmunda ferns should be planted in a damp border or at the margins of ponds and streams.
