Offering season-long interest with its dark purple leaves that mature to bronze, this small, rounded, deciduous Weigela shrub bears a profusion of funnel-shaped rose-pink flowers in late spring, attracting butterflies and bees. A showy, new dwarf variety, forming a dense habit of dark, almost black leaves. Weigela florida Minor Black produces masses of red-pink flowers in May and June, sometimes flowering again in autumn.
